Bold Mellon

You are all who came before, you are all who will come after

The short film juxtaposes the oppressive grandiosity of the
colonial space with intimate & personal objects that evoke
home: a lunch box, a teddy bear, photographs, pieces of
fabric, old notebooks and CDs.

We spoke often about queer disobedience, activism and
protest. Personal objects sat alongside archives of past
struggles: protest flyers and photographs stapled to bunting,
reminding us to celebrate those who came before us, the
rights we have today that they fought for, and our connected
continuing of their many legacies.

Within all of this, there is the joy and tenderness of finding
one another. Of gathering, remembering and moving together,
creating space for dreams and desires. From deep roots, we
reach through tangled time to bring imagined futures to life.

Can Serrat Artistic Residency

Auca de Montserrat

Grounded in local history, ecology and mythology, Auca de Montserrat is an expression of multiple local perspectives and visions of the mountain Montserrat -a key symbol of Catalan identity. It juxtaposes the past with the present, the imaginary with the factual as well as the spiritual with external threats such as capitalism or climate change. 

Shot on 16mm black and white film, to blend seamlessly between archive footage and contemporary imagery.

Anna stumbles out of a club after a night out, just missing her bus home. As the sun begins to rise, she wanders through the streets of London and comes across a church. Almost without meaning to, she steps inside. In the stillness of the empty space, memories of her grandmother and the people she left behind flood her mind. She finds herself wondering what her life would have been like if she had never left home.
